Accra, June 1, GNA – Mr John Kumah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, (NEIP), has encouraged Ghanaian youth to get involved in agribusiness, especially, cocoa.
Mr. Kumah said this during a panel discussion at the Green Ghana Lecture series, organized by Kuapa Kokoo Co-operative Farmers and Marketing Union Limited, at the Kempinski Gold Coast City Hotel, Accra.
Mr Kumah used his experiences as the son of a cocoa farmer to make a case for more innovations in the cocoa sector.
“We need more innovative ideas to revolutionise the cocoa industry in Ghana, this innovations can serve as one of the means through which we can attract more Ghanaian youths to be cocoa farmers,” he said.
Mr Kumah said NEIP looked forward to partnering with COCOBOD, Kuapa Kooko and interested stakeholders to convert cocoa pods and cocoa leaves into economic products and to also develop unique varieties of cocoa seeds that could be produced all year round.
Mrs Frema Osei-Opare, the Chief of Staff, said the NEIP had contributed to providing an integrated support for start-ups and small businesses in Ghana and also empowering more youth in agribusiness, which was helping build an enterprise-driven economy.
The event was chaired by Former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Other dignitaries present at the event were Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem I -Tepamanhene, Mr Anthony Fofie, a Former CEO of COCOBOD, Ms Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, among others.
